FAQs

Your first acupuncture visit at wellbe will undoubtedly leave you feeling relaxed + rejuvenated! But before you walk away on a cloud, expect a comprehensive health history assessment where your concerns are heard and addressed. It’s all about you! Our skilled practitioners will ask questions that may seem unrelated to your chief concern, but they are crucial for understanding your body's overall interactions, which are key to accurate diagnosis and treatment. Sometimes, the practitioner may also examine your tongue or feel your pulse to help determine the flow of energy and your body’s state of balance.
After the consultation and assessment, a personalized treatment protocol is devised tailored to your needs and goals. Then it’s onto relaxation! While in our comfortable setting, our practitioners will work their magic. The tiny needles are virtually painless and are placed at specific points to stimulate healing and balance. Many people find the experience deeply relaxing and rejuvenating.
-
Because the goal of acupuncture is to promote and restore the balance of energy, the benefits of acupuncture can extend to a wide range of conditions from musculoskeletal conditions (TMJ, neck and back pain, knee, ankle, elbow, etc) to emotional disorders (anxiety, stress, depression) to digestive complaints (nausea, IBS, reflux). It can also be used to treat degenerative conditions such as chronic pain or arthritis and inflammatory conditions such as sinusitis. Labour preparation, induction and fertility acupuncture is also effective with acupuncture.
According to the National Cancer Institute, several studies show that acupuncture can help boost immunity and speed up recovery following cancer treatments. -
Acupuncturist's treat the root of the problem and not just the symptoms. Relieving pain and supporting the body’s ability to heal itself are the goals of treatment. Pain is reduced because the needles promote the release of endorphins, as well as increase the movement of blood, relaxing tissues and optimizing the nervous system.

Typically the first acupuncture visit involves a comprehensive health history assessment. The questions may seem unrelated to the chief concern or complaint, but they are relevant to the entire body’s interactions which are the key to diagnosis and treatment. Sometimes, the practitioner may ask to examine your tongue or feel your pulse to help determine energy flow and body’s state of balance.
After the consultation and assessment, a treatment protocol is devised. -
After treatment you should feel calm, relaxed and maybe a bit sleepy. Some people feel more energetic. The responses vary depending on the type of treatment and your current state of health. The effects are cumulative and each treatment builds on the last. A typical treatment plan may look like this: 1-2 timer a week for 6-8 treatments followed by monthly maintenance treatments for a period of time, however this varies from patient to patient.

Labour preparation acupuncture are weekly treatments starting from 36 weeks pregnant. These treatments build on each other and gradually help to prepare the body for labour. You can think about a door that has been tightly locked for 9 months and what we are doing in labour prep acupuncture is to slowly unlock each of those locks so that when your body is ready for labour to begin there will be nothing stopping it.
At 36 weeks we start by focusing mostly on softening the cervix and promoting optimal position of baby and as the treatments progress towards a due date as points and techniques are used that are more stimulating to the uterus to help give things a gentle nudge in the right direction. Our acupuncturists also teach acupressure techniques to partners so they can continue the treatments at home between appointments. Check out workshops page to register for the Labour Preparation Acupressure Webinar.
After 40 weeks our providers use a host of points and techniques to help promote labour - this called Induction Acupuncture. We work with your body to help move things along naturally. -
Yes! These treatments focus on a few things that will vary client by client. We always address whether or not a patient has an excess of tension in the hips/ ligaments that might be restricting the baby’s ability to move freely, or if the patient is very very drained and tired.
Posture is also addressed. We recommend chiropractic care in conjunction with acupuncture for best results. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Breech treatments typically work best prior to 34 weeks but can be done any time. Breech babies often reach optimal positioning at 38 or even 39 weeks.
